Moving candidates

Move candidates between stages using the toolbar, keyboard, or automations.

Moving candidates through stages is the primary action in your day-to-day recruiting workflow. Bringboard gives you three ways to do it.

Stage toolbar

Open a candidate's detail panel and use the stage dropdown in the toolbar above their profile. Select the target stage. The move happens instantly and the candidate list updates.

Keyboard shortcut

Select a candidate in the list and press S. A stage picker appears. Use arrow keys to pick a stage and press Enter to confirm.

Workflow automations

The Move to stage action in workflows moves candidates automatically when a trigger fires. For example, you can auto-advance candidates to Phone Screen when they apply, or auto-archive candidates who haven't progressed in 30 days.

Terminal stages

Moving a candidate to Hired or Archived has special effects:

  • Hired sets the hiredAt timestamp and changes the application status to Hired.
  • Archived sets the rejectedAt timestamp. You can add an optional rejection reason.
  • Both write an audit event that appears in the candidate's activity timeline.
You can move a candidate back to an active stage after hiring or archiving. The original timestamp stays in the audit trail, but the application becomes active again.

What gets recorded

Every stage move writes an event to the activity timeline with the previous and new stage names, who made the move, and when. Moves triggered by automations are tagged as such so you can tell human and automated actions apart.
